The location is wonderful. We had a beautiful view of the sea over the rocks. 5mins from the main strip of shops, bars and restaurants. The manager and staff couldn't do any more to accommodate us and the breakfasts were delicious and felt like it was made with love. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and couldn't recommend it more. Our villa was huge and the bedrooms were well sized. We loved the outdoor showers, we thought this was an exceptionally well planned part of the room.

I've been to Unawatuna 4 times/years and that beautiful place changes for worse.
There is new oversized monster-hotel, water scooters, loud music, fireworks, higher prices...
In last 2 years 90% of tourists are Russians - some restaurants are only in russian.
Most likely, I am not going back.

Unawatuna beach has beautiful water and golden sand.
Unawatuna beach has beautiful water and golden sand. The part of the beach where I visited, the ocean gets quite deep very fast, and the waves seem to cary you in quite easily. I haven't seen any lifeguards or flags that would indicate the wave's condition, but local people were very kind to give information.
If you like hiking, the city has a nice trail to a beach called Jungle beach. Trough the same trail, you can pass by the Japanese Peace Pagoda, and if you are lucky you might see monkeys and lizards. The trail is more or less 40 min one way.
The restaurants from the hotels are very much on the coast, sometimes seems to close from the beach. But the food quality is good and affordable, and lots of these restaurants offer alcohol.
I stayed one day in Unawatuna and it felt enough time to discover what the city has to offer.

I heard that this used to be a great beach.
I heard that this used to be a great beach. Unfortunately I do not think it is today. Very exploited and there are many beach places renting out sunbeds. They can get away with having (very) crappy toilets because there are new tourists every day, they do not need a good review.
Having dinner on the beach was a strange experience, started out good but then a large company came and occupied the space next to us, ordering champagne, oysters and lobsters like there was no tomorrow, and we were forgotten about.
There are plenty of other beaches in Sri Lanka that are much better.

Easy to get to Galle and Secret Beach.
Easy to get to Galle and Secret Beach. Lots of shopping and busyness. Much different feel to other popular spots in SL
If it's rainy season, then get out in the morning. The rain usually comes in the afternoon
The hotel was perfectly located on the beach and very close to the Main Street of Unawatuna for all the restaurants.
The staff particularly Sunil and the head waiter (sorry didn’t get his name) were amazing nothing was too much trouble for them they looked after us from putting our towels on our sunbeds, decorating our bedroom, taking our washing to the laundry. Sunil even travelling on Christmas day an hour to Mirissa to bring and necklace I had left which I was so grateful for.
The restaurant was also really good situated on the beach.
lovely setting on the beach, lovely staff who were always helpful and happy. Minor issues with room sorted out. Accidental error on departure was sorted out and we were notified before we had even reached home. The breakfast (Sri Lankan curry was delicious) Best restaurant we ate in for dinner having made an effort to try as many as possible along the beach. The hotel is a little bit tired looking but not an issue for us. The bed was very comfortable and the AC worked.
The location of this hotel cannot be beaten. We had a great two nights staying at this hotel, finding it incredible relaxing and the perfect place to end our holiday. Rooms were large with all the amenities you require, there is a restaurant that serves delicious meals, and turtles swimming in the sea which you can see from the hotel. We particularly enjoyed watching the turtles as the sun was setting with a sun downer!
Highly recommend Rastha Pastha Beach Hotel for everyone! Outstanding hospitality, friendly staff, superb location a must experience stay.
Despite the ongoing crisis in the Sri Lankan government, I appreciate the hotel's unwavering commitment to providing uninterrupted services like WiFi and hot water. Thank you for maintaining a high standard during challenging times.
Beautiful hotel. The rooms were spacious, light and stylish. The rooftop pool and bar has the most incredible views and ambiance. The staff were incredibly friendly. A short 10 min walk to jungle beach (which we much preferred to unawatuna beach) its fantastic. Dinner was delicious and the sri lankan breakfast was amazing! Oh and super comfy beds and amazing shower.
The location was perfect. Right on the rocks of the ocean and the entrance to the beach is no more than 20 meters from the accommodation. The staff were always available and more than happy to assist us. We were able to store food in the fridge for our daughter as well. The view is stunning as well. Overlooking the unawatuna beach with the most magical sunsets.
Good value for money and absolutely lovely staff with good Sri Lankan breakfast. Huge room and shower. Garden is still being built, so not yet usable. The Beach at this spot is a thin strip, but walking either left/right for a few hundred meters leads you to other beaches. Hearing the waves at night was nice, there's no A/C a but two strong fans.
perfect boutique hotel with a private beach if you want to feel the heaven on earth. staff was excellent, so helpful and always smiling. there is no music when you rest in the beach. so you get the best sunbathing and relaxing atmosphere. breakfast and dinner was awesome. the best we ate in all Sri Lanka. I would definitely visit again next time.
Very very great place to stay! The staff is so lovely and helpful. Location is great : walking distance from the main beach and unawatuna main road. We stayed in the family room for 5 nights. It is big and comfortable , AC is working.
The hotel is a very peaceful place.
The breakfast is really delicious !
The hotel garden is exceptinal. I believe they are the best one in Unawatuna. The breakfast is beyond expectations. Pool is lovely for the familys, we prefer to swim in the sea. They have a private beach but maybe it may be season effect, the sea was so wavy. There are good beaches reachable by tuk tuk.
It is a really great hotel in terms of restaurants, food (unless you are not into spicy Sri Lankan cuisine, because there is almost nothing international available except for the breakfast), facilities, and staff.
Staff at the restaurants, in the lobby, by the pool, and the beach are amazing.
We where very happy with our stay at the Green Escape Unawatuna. The staff was sweet and helpfull, the food was great and the hotel had all you could ask for. The hotel is located in a nice area great for walking, yoga and going to the beach. We would very much recommend!
Around our sri lanka journey with my girlfriend we stayed here 01 night. Its was amazing in my life i been many hotels but this is only i like so so much.. they hospitality is perfect food is delicious so who is visiting this hotel we are highly Recommend
Thank you
Very nice and unique small hotel, quiet and comfortable place for family vacation, excellent and hospitable staff, they can organize absolutely everything by your request! The hotel has own small beach that is very conveniently after overcrowded Unawatuna.
Our room was very spacious and the view of the ocean from the balcony was incredible, definitely worth paying extra for. The pool area and garden was nice. Food was excellent, especially the Sri Lankan curry, the portion was massive as well.
The hotel is a little gem. Located on the main Road in Unawatuna. Set back so no noise. 5 mins walk to busy beach road and the beach. It's great value for money. Beds huge and comfortable. Staff very helpful and always have a smile
Great hotel at the quieter end of Unawatuna Beach. Staff were excellent. Breakfast was good. The small infinity pool with loungers on the roof is a great place to watch the sunset or swim if the sea is too rough.
The location of this small hotel in Unawatuna is super, away enough from the main strip to make it relaxed but not too far that access to the strip is an issue. The beach is across the road.
We had a very nice stay. The propery is unique and picturesque. The host was very helpful and arranged a perfect vegetarian breakfast for us. Must book when in unawatuna.
