Sri Lanka embarks on commercial Scale Solar cell production

Ministry of Science, Technology& Research is all set to introduce the technology of commercial Scale Solar cell manufacturing to Sri Lanka.

The multi university national solar cell R & D &Edu Training project is ,aimed at introducing locally manufacturing thin film cadmium sulfide based solar cells and panels to Sri Lanka in the very near future.

A training programme of a group of persons competent in solar cells technology, will be implemented with the involvement of Colombo ,Ruhuna and Kelaniya universities.

Approval of the cabinet of Ministers has been secured for the funding of the project by the Ministry of Science,Technology& Research.

A Sri Lankan expert who is competent in the environmental & toxic aspects of chemicals which would be used during the research & development phase and at the manufacturing phase of this project ,is also engaged in an official tour in China at present.

Minister of Science,Technology& Research Susil Premajayantha, have joined by Prof.(Mrs.) Sirimalee Fernando,of NSF ,Prof.Lakshman Dissanayaka,of NIFS and Eng.Anjula Shivakumar, in a visit to Advanced Solar Power (ASP) in Hangzhou ,China on 24 & 25th July 2017 where commercial scale manufacturing of similar solar cells / panels is being carried out.(LI NEWS)
