The COPE committee probe into CB bond issue could be completed soon as the statements given by top CB officials to COPE committee on Thursday 7 coincided with the Auditor General’s report on the bond issue, he revealed.
He said that there was indication that COPE findings would make recommendations against then Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran whose involvement in the controversial bond issue had been confirmed by Auditor General Gamini Wijesinghe.
In his report, the Auditor General has blamed Mr. Mahendran for shortcomings in professional judgement and failing to avoid losses which could have been avoided.
The Central Bank officials have been summoned before the COPE committee again on August 12.
