PCoI on SriLankan MR to respond by 2 May

The Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI), probing irregularities at the SriLankan Airlines, SriLankan Catering and Mihin Lanka, has asked Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa to submit an affidavit by 2 May with responses to a questionnaire they sent him earlier in April.

Commission sources said they had sent the questionnaire to former President Rajapaksa in the first week of April to be answered in the form of an affidavit by 10 April.

However, given the time needed to answer the questionnaire and legal aid, Rajapaksa had requested two more weeks, due to ‘practical issues’ occurring during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year vacation.

According to sources, Rajapaksa has mentioned practical inconveniences in gathering information and legal resources during the period of the Court vacation and the Avurudu season.

“However, the Commission has given the two week period, including the vacation period, disregarding Rajapaksa’s request for an extension to submit the affidavit,” sources claimed.
