Jaffna- Kaithady Ayurveda Hospital was established in 1978, with five wards, a laboratory, and a pharmacy and out patients unit. In 1983 most of the staff was displaced to south. The services were limited to two wards male and female with few patients.
Arrival of the first degree holder’s batch to the hospital in 1990 and demand of the students of the Department of the Siddha Ayurveda Medicine reestablished up to six wards including maternity ward and surgery unit at the out patient dispensary. Again it was destroyed by the war in 2000. It was shifted to a private building at Manipay and functioned as a dispensary. In 2002, it was shifted to the remaining building and there repair works have been started on 2004 by the Department of Ayurveda. Now it is functioning with 4 ward and out patient unit with 36 staff including six Ayurveda Medical Officers.
