Government solicits the support of 35 trade unions for CEB reforms Featured

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera solicited support of representatives from 35 trade unions concerning the proposed reforms of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and the broader energy sector.

During the discussion held last Thursday, the Minister provided a detailed update on the progress of the reforms within the electricity sector.

As per the Minister, the discussions surrounded critical aspects such as the structure of the new proposed Electricity Act, projected transition timelines, strategies for effective human resource management and transfer plans and considerations regarding employee benefits and pensions.

Among the topics covered was the establishment of a dedicated Reform Secretariat, which will play a pivotal role in orchestrating and implementing the multifaceted reforms.

In addition, plans for the creation of successor companies within the reformed framework were deliberated upon.
