Saliya Wickramasuriya takes up the CPC and CPSTL chairmanship Featured

Energy expert Saliya Wickramasuriya has been appointed as the new chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and the Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Ltd. (CPSTL), Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera disclosed

The appointment was made to fill the vacancy created following the resignation of . Mohamed Uvais Mohamed on October 04.

At present, Mr. Wickramasuriya, serves as the Chairman of the Board of the Petroleum Development Authority. He is also a member of the Colombo Port City Economic Commission.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of CPC Darshana Rathnayake has been appointed as the Managing Director of CPSTL.

According to unconfirmed reports that the reason for the resignation of Mr Uvais Mohamed was the difference of opinion between him and the minister Wijesekera.

The immediate cause for his decision to stepdown was his refusal to terminate the services several daily paid workers recruited during the tenure of former minister Udaya Gammanpila, trade union leader said.

He revealed that there was an attempt to hand over the Sapugagaskanda oil refinery to a foreign company which is set to take over the fuel importation, storage and distribution in the country soon

Mr Uavais was not available for comment
