Pathinayake, Senior DIG (Western Province) Deshabandu Tennakoon and Senior DIG Ajith Rohana are among the names that are contesting for the high position in the police. .

The Sri Lanka Police which is in charge of maintaining public law and order, and preventing crime and terrorism, has been functioning since September 26 up to as the suitable name has not been sent the Constitutional Council to appoint the 34th IGP of Sri Lanka Police
