Government to end sending Women as Domestic Workers Abroad Featured

Sri Lanka's Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment, Mr. Manusha Nanayakkara, has instructed officials to develop a plan to completely halt the practice of sending Sri Lankan women as domestic workers for foreign jobs.

This directive followed a meeting with representatives of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau and the Association of Licensed Foreign Employment Agencies.

In a statement released by the ministry, Manusha Nanayakkara had emphasized the importance of transitioning Sri Lankan migrant workers towards higher-skilled and higher-paying job opportunities.

The move comes amidst growing concerns about the vulnerability of Sri Lankan domestic workers abroad. Reports of abuse, exploitation, and unfair working conditions have prompted calls for reform.
