Tourist arrivals from China picked up in April, the second month since the Asian giant opened its borders for outbound travel.
There were 5,118 Chinese tourists in April up from 3,096 in March.China used to be Sri Lanka’s second biggest source market pre-COVID after India. There were a record 271,577 Chinese tourists in 2016.
Sri Lanka expects to record 240,000 tourist arrivals from China in 2023 and expects Chinese tourist numbers has picked up after February, following the Chinese New Year, stated Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) Chairperson Priantha Fernando.
