Following an initial meeting in December, the World Bank, represented by its Global Director for the World Bank Group's Water Global Practice (GP), Saroj Jha, has pledged full support for Sri Lanka's ambitious water sector reforms.
In a Twitter message, Thondaman stated, "Since our first meeting in December, Saroj has come forward to provide the full support of the World Bank for the ambitious reforms we are doing in Sri Lanka’s water sector."
Thondaman highlighted that this collaboration will aid in restructuring $800 million of debt in the water sector, providing access to credit enhancement schemes, and ensuring the affordability and transparency of new water projects.
The initiative is set to put Sri Lanka on a secure path to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6), which focuses on clean water and sanitation for all, the minister said
