Function of the Ministry of Transport In terms o Mahinda Chinthana Vision for the Future and other national policies formulation of policies, programmes and projects relating to the subjects in departments and the statutory institutions under the Ministry of Transport. Implementation and operation of above policies, programmes and projects within the period agreed with the national planning authorities and within the budgetary resources in order to achieve the relevant objectives. Providing the public services belonging to the scope of the functions of the Ministry efficiently and in a user friendly manner. Establishment of a National Integrated Passenger and Goods Railway Transport System, development of railway infrastructure facilities and providing Rail Services. Providing passenger ferry services. Providing a safe and reliable passenger transport services. Performing all activities pertaining to acquiring lands, development of infrastructure and construction of new Railway Lines. All other subjects delegated to other institution under the Ministry. Supervision of institution under the Ministry.
