The Sri Lankan ambassador in Israel, Nimal Bandara, confirmed to the Daily Mirror that the Israeli authorities had promptly informed the embassy about the incident.
The women's identities are yet to be established, and further information will be obtained from the authorities by tomorrow to determine the next steps, the ambassador added.
In light of the ongoing conflict with the Hamas group, Ambassador Bandara issued a warning to Sri Lankans planning to enter Israel illegally from the borders.
"Please inform those intending to enter Israel through illegal routes not to proceed, as you will face the risk of being shot at,” he added.
