Sri Lanka win 4 x 400m Mixed Relay Silver Featured

Sri Lanka 4 x 400 m mixed relay team won silver medal at the Inagural Asian Relay Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand yesterday.

Sri Lanka team comprised Aruna Dharshana, Pasindu Lakshan Kodikara, Sayuri Mendis and Nadeesha Ramanayake and they did this achivement with a time of 3 minutes 17 seconds while India team with a time of 3 minutes 14.12 seconds (3.14.12) won the first place to take gold. Vietnam team won the bronze with a time of 3.18.45 seconds.

In fact Sri Lanka team ran at 4th lane and Aruna Dharshana started the first lap but Indian athlete got clear lead to finish first after first lap and got advantage of the race. Sayuri Mendis ran the second lap and Lakshan Kodikara ran the third lap. Nadeesha Ramanayake the much expected 400 m women’s athlete tried to reduce the gap from Indian athlete but Indian athlete had a clear lead to take the gold.

However 400m champion Kalinga Kumarage was earlier expected to do this relay but after the Japan meet he left to Thailand and Pasindu Kodikara replaced for Kalinga to do this mixed relay.

Sri Lankan 4x100m women’s relay team will compete the final today evening.
